River St. Joe Brewery | Flatwater Farms | Buchanan, Michigan

In collaboration with the architects at Moss Design (Chicago), Jessica Dune (formerly JMLA) conducted site planning and landscape design for Buchanan Craft’s River St. Joe Brewery on Flatwater Farms in southwest Michigan. The new organic microbrewery integrates with this unique agricultural landscape, where hops trellises tower above remnant prairie in the rolling hills of Berrien County, fringed with oak woodland, just above the shoreline of the incredible St. Joseph River. An impressive variety of certified organic hops, grown on the farm, will fill the adjacent barn with their incredible aroma on their way into a farm fresh mircrobrew. With much of this landscape open for enjoyment of the farm, native prairie, and passive recreation, the landscape expands on what the idea of a beer garden can be.

Mixed-Use Conceptual Master Plan | British Columbia

Jessica Dune (formerly JMLA) executed an extensive site analysis of hydrology, cultural, archaeological and ecological context, views, slope and aspect, soils, circulation, and community connectivity for a 400-acre property that was formerly logged, and is currently being assessed for a gentle, harmonious combination of mixed use development, the inclusion of affordable housing, a trail system, reforestation, and more in a beautiful coastal village that has seasonal recreational tourism, but not many amenities for the local community.

SMORE Youth and Family Campground | Andrew Molera State Park | Big Sur, California

Working closely with Ventana Wildlife Society, and after a thorough ecological and program site analysis, Jessica Dune (formerly JMLA) designed a master plan for a youth and family camp, known as SMORE (“Space for Meaningful Outdoor Recreation + Education). VWS, a conservation organization that also does California condor recovery, will use this site to run their nature immersion program for local youth and families with less access to wilderness. The program is in a special use area within Andrew Molera State Park near the Big Sur River within one of the most beloved of the region’s state parks. One of the most rewarding community projects with a beautiful mission - to help everyone feel more at home in nature!
